NotSoMicro survey – responding to racial microaggressions in schools:įrom hair and name discrimination to being confused with the only other Black pupil in the class, we know that racial microaggression and racism in schools can have a harmful impact on the mental health of young people from Black and racialised backgrounds. The aim is to educate teachers about microaggressions subtle, everyday racist remarks or actions that over time, evidence shows, can have an impact on the mental health of people from racialised communities. One of the groups making a difference is Not So Micro - campaigning to include microaggression training as mandatory in teacher training. The programme developed four social action strands including policy influencing, engaging frontline practitioners, changing public attitudes, and peer-to-peer support. ![]() It gives young people with black and black mixed-race heritage an opportunity to reimagine and affect change through the lens of social action. The project is led by young Co-Producers aged 16 – 25, with black and black mixed-race heritage and with a passion for and/or lived experience of mental health issues. It supports young people with black and black mixed-race heritage to channel their lived experiences into tackling racial injustices in mental health services in the UK. The Young Changemakers programme is a collaboration between UK Youth, the Centre for Mental Health, and The Diana Award.
